Definition of Make to assemble (MTA):

1. Form of handling items manufactured by a company where, instead of stockpiling the fully-assembled product, the company warehouses the parts separately until the time that a customer places an order for the product. At this point, the merchant assembles the stored parts into the finished product ordered by the customer.
