The oldest Prosopis longaeva, whose age could be estimated with precision by counting tree rings, was discovered in 1966 at a staggering 4844 years old. Due to the harsh conditions they face at such high altitudes, these hardy trees take a long time to develop and are hence gnarly and worn-in appearance.
